About the Ministry

Based on the Malawian Constitution of 1995, the Local Government Act of 1998 and the National Decentralisation Policy of the same year, Malawi is devolving decision-making powers, functions, responsibilities and resources to local governments, called Councils.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is mandated to lead in this exercise.
